You're Invited to FIERCE's 2011 Green Fair!
  • Date: October 8, 2011
  • Time: 9:00 AM-5:00PM
  • Location: Fremont Hub (Fremont's open-air grocery/shopping center)
  • Why: To provide people of all ages with an engaging and entertaining day of "green" experiences, from green companies to environmental workshops, children's activities, and organic and local food! Make a mark on your calender for a reminder to attend the 2011 Green Fair!

FIERCE is offering environmentally-themed workshops for interested community members! We've invited experts in each of the following topics to present to you and give you the tools and knowledge to make your lifestyle a little bit "greener": home gardening and composting, energy conservation and waste reduction, and (more for students and teachers) starting school environmental programs.

 

9:30-10:30: Workshop #1 Energy Conservation and Waste Reduction at Home
10:45-11:45: Workshop #2 Local Food, Backyard Gardening, and Vermicomposting
11:45-12:45: Lunch and visit the fair
12:45-1:45: Workshop #3 Introduction to Urban Farming: rethinking the waste stream to create soil and food.
2:00-3:00: Workshop #4 Starting School Environmental Groups (for students/teachers)
OR
Safe Cleaning (for the general community)

A wide variety of entities will be present from various aspects of the environmental field, including transportation, energy, agriculture and food, park and wildlife, waste and water resources, pollution prevention, and outreach.
In addition, "green businesses" that make a meaningful effort to reduce their environmental impact will be attending!

Presenters include:

  • Energy Upgrade CA with resources and incentives to increase your home's efficiency
  • Also including a prize wheel for a chance to win energy-saving products!
  • Alameda County Master Gardeners
  • Free information and resources on sustainable and environmentally sound garden practices.
  • Free advice on your garden problems: bring your plant or insect samples!
  • Segway rides
  • A display on composting by TCEC
  • BART
  • Various non-profits, including Save the Bay, the Sierra Club, Bay Friendly Gardening, the EBRPD, and the Alameda Creek Alliance
  • And many more!
