LEAF - Local Ecology and Agriculture Fremont

I just saw this, and it seems like such a Niles thing we could do, on a smaller scale perhaps.   Exciting idea!

Basically, and "underground" farmers market -- for home gardeners, home kitchen producers, etc.  I'm seeing lots of local fruits, jams, baked goods (of course), produce, eggs, music. Anyone make any backyard wine?

OMG. My mouth is watering!!
Great idea ...no fees , no tax , no health department , no ag department ....just locally produced food. Thanks for sharing Carolyn
Carolyn,
I responded to a message a week or so ago from another member about wanting to glean fruit from trees around the city that was otherwise going to waste. Since there are so many people interested in this, i suggested he create a LEAF group named Fremont Fruit Foragers to garner support and generate ideas around this. He said he didn't have the extra time, but maybe you would be interested in leading this discussion. Fremont Foragers has a great ring to it.
I like the idea. I have oranges and lemons - no pesticides, no herbicides, no synthetic fertilizers for 25 yrs. Also grow a garden organically. How would this work? Mary Kate
I really wanted to go to the one in SF last weekend but couldn't make it.

I don't have any fruit to speak of right now, but will have plums later in the year. And I could definitely contribute baked goods, having been a professional baker for years. I'd like to go to one of the SF ones to see how they organize it. It's more of a market, rather than a sharing/barter set up.
Good - to see one already organized. I like a market especially when I see lemons for $.69 a piece. I would sell them for less.
Hey folks, Sarika has started a forum for foraging in Fremont http://www.leafcenter.org/forum/topics/fremont-fruit-foragers
