LEAF - Local Ecology and Agriculture Fremont

Has anyone connected with Kennedy High School? They are supposed to be an "Eco" magnate school and apparently have several vegetable gardens growing there. I believe they have a garden club for the students.  And at Walters Jr high school, it looks like some one is starting a little garden on the north end of the field near the parking lot. I saw a compost bin and a couple of raised planting boxes when I rode by the other day. Are there any plans for LEAF's expertise to be used in the classrooms or outside in the school gardens?

Thanks for this info Marie,
I would love to coordinate with the schools, but unfortunately I have no free time to pursue this myself. Do you know anyone who would be interested in being the LEAF School Garden Liaison? Perhaps we should create a position for this.
I would like to know as well Marie. I think we at Mattos, should do something similar so there is continuity for the students at Mattos. The added plus is that we have a lot of "land" now to start something since the district ran out of money to replace the iceplants and grass. What do you think?
Mattos Elem School is really bare now that the parking lot upgrades are complete. All the unplanted dirt areas are going to become giant mud puddles as soon as the rains come. I didn't know there was a lack of funds to re-plant the landscaping. Sounds like Mattos could use some LEAF expertise, especially if the school district has no immediate plans to replace the ground cover. Viv, do you know how to get the school district list of approved plants for use at elementary school sites?
