February 12, 2012 Meeting
While joining this group, I wish to share the contents of my email to Abe and others:
January 2012 Meeting
-Weeded entire area where we will be planting.
-Built and put in four 8 ft x 4 ft x 2 ft planter boxes.
-Met adult Girl Scout leader, Debbie Fuller. She is interested in working with us to have a Thank You Potluck with our vegetables we grow to thank the leaders at the Leaf Center, providing us with contacts where we can donate vegetables, and having the Girl Scouts teach us about gardening.
Action Items to complete by February meeting:
-Ashley will research how many square feet are required for each plant and any other interesting information.
-Abe will provide template to help 4-H members to diagram potential layouts of plants in the garden boxes.
-Mike will research how and if it is important to register kids through the Leaf Center website.
-Abe will put add in Niles e-group to ask for laytex paint to paint planter boxes.
-Need 4-H member to volunteer to photograph at the meetings at the Leaf Center to show our progress. Bruce, from the Leaf Center has requested that we put these photos on the Leaf Center site under groups. Any volunteers to be our photographer?
-Abe will find stores to donate materials to build olla pots for irrigation. Materials include 64 unglazed terra cotta pots, 32 wine corks, water-proof poxy. Need to know 4-H tax id number as well.
-Abe will request of Allied Waste to donate 10 cubic yards of compost.
What we will be doing February meeting:
-Ashley will present findings.
-Discuss layout of plants.
-Build olla pots.
December 2011 Meeting
-Useful resource is www.commongroundinpaloalto.org.
-Everyone needs to register at the Leaf Center website, http://www.leafcenter.org/, so that insurance will cover everyone and we can get a combo to enter the Leaf Center.
-Until the meeting in the second Saturday in February, we intend to weed and put 12 inch boards in the three plots.
-The next official meeting is the second Saturday in January, 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM.
-Everyone is encouraged to weed the plots in their free time and let others know when you are so others may join you. Saturday is a good day to do this until we get a combo because usually someone from the Leaf Center is there.
-Michelle is going to try to find boards. Bruce may have some boards as well.
