Hi All,

Fremont does have a food bank. It is run by Tri-city Volunteers.
It is in Centerville off of Peralta. I just called and their hours are 8:30 to 4:30 Monday thru Friday.

To everyone, I am about to rip out all those spinach plants and plant something else. I can't keep up with it. You may go and harvest them any way you want. Not just picking leaves. I know that's a pain. You can break stems, whatever. That is for the New Zealand SPINACH plants, closest to the corn.

If we have excess ripe tomatoes the Milpitas food pantry is looking for fresh produce to hand out to families in need. The food bank is making an effort to provide low income families with fresh produce rather than just handing out the traditional canned foods. I will be happy to bring it there. Fremont unfortunately does not have a food bank, we are part of Alameda food bank which is in Oakland. Too far for me to drive.

What is the schedule for working in the garden now that Josh is gone? Is anyone taking the large amount of riping tomatoes to freeze or can?

Anyone know of a person who could house sit/dog sit/water seedling flats in September? We need someone from September 8-21 and again from September 26-October 3. If so, e-mail me at edandalice1@att.net or telephone 796-8597.

Also, I have planted seeds of a dozen different lettuces, (will post varieties tomorrow). I've seeded a dozen cells of each with intent to plant at the garden. If you want some for your home let me know and I'll seed in a few more.

The Washington Garden Site will have summer squash, peppers and eggplants to give to the proposed vegetable wrap food stand at the Niles Fleamarket next weekend.

Also, to anyone harvesting the New Zealand spinach from my plot, please only pick the leaves, and not the stems. This allows it to keep producing. I KNOW how tedious it is to pick only the leaves, but it is necessary.

Great. I knew you would like it.

Dwight,

Picked a few leaves of you kale and used in in a risotto for supper. Damned fine stuff! Thanks.
