ok I will look into the cost of the 2 x 12. Thank you for the offer to help and sharing the information.

2x12's is what she used, so she had some depth. Just two 4' pieces and two 12' pieces, with metal brackets to nail the corners together.

awww really? you are so sweet. I am unemployed right now Dwight and funds are tight. But I will look into getting the lumber. My landlord may have some on his property I can get if he is willing to let it go. Would you recommend 2 x 4's or 2 x 6's?

I have a power saw, I could cut the wood up for you.

I could do it myself I am sure if I had the tools. As you said its not rocket science. Well, I am hoping to go back to work soon. Then I can just go buy the materials myself and possible have a friend help me. I was just curious if maybe she built them for sale. Thanks anyway.

Laura, regarding the boxes, she only makes them for her own garden. She made four of them or so. She and I did anyway, then she had to rebuild some after a few years due to rot, but that was to be expected. I could try to get instructions from her if you like. I generally remember, but I could see it there's something I missed. It's just a rectangle, with wire spread in the bottom and nailed to the wood. Not rocket science.

Rachel,
I just wanted to say sorry I missed you this past weekend during the planting at Niles Community Garden. Hope to catch up with you soon. You are doing a wonderful job! Thank you!

Hello Dwight,
I was wondering how much your friend charges for the garden boxes. I am here in Niles, I do have a yard but the area I am considering is on a slight incline or decline. Its currently full of weeds.

Congrats on all the progress. Now I just have to get out there. Are there plots that are assigned to people, or is it a group thing taking direction from someone?

I've been wanting to get out to some of the events, but keep having schedule conflicts. I'm trying to figure out which one is closest to me. I'm in Newark, by Decoto Rd. This is all organic, right? I read one person talking about calling the exterminator for the gophers. I'm not a gopher lover, but also don't want any poisons where the plants would be.

A friend of mine builds raised beds on her land, 2"x12" wood sides, making probably 4'x12' boxes, and wire mesh on the bottoms to deter the gophers. Might not be feasible for large tracts, but something to think about.
