LEAF - Local Ecology and Agriculture Fremont

I encountered lots of interest when I suggested to folks that there might be a "gopher workshop". It is a challenging part of Fremont gardens and I have personally watched tomoto plants grow upside down and disappear into holes before I realized that some animals were enjoying them way ahead of me. Mission Baptist needs to keep an eye on the fruit trees planted in front as well.

My first image of a workshop was a bunch of gophers sitting around and confessing to their bad habits and how to correct themselves.

Look forward to a lively discussion on the different methods of control or lack thereof.

Hi, Richard,
Welcome to our garden group!! Yes, I've seen those gopher mounds near the front fruit trees, also!! A few weeks ago I bought a $25 jug of pelleted Gopher Scram and spread it around the back 1/3 of the veggie garden. It was supposed to be a deterrent. Well the gophers ignored the area for about a week, and that was all.
I think Marie is working with BIll Merrill to be our gopher consultant. I wonder if we should also invite the gophers to "Gophers Anonymous" meetings - what do you think the 12 steps should be?
Hope to see you at our work party tomorrow if you do not go up the hill to weed the NILES sign.
Bonnie
We are definately going to host a gopher class at our location. Just trying to pick a date now that the gopher guy's schedule is freed up. What do you think would work best, a saturday afternoon around 1pm or a Sunday afternoon around 2 pm? It will be about 2.5 hours long. Or should we have it on a saturday morning around 9am?

Gophers, unwanted garden guests

Judging by the numerous new holes and the fresh piles of moved earth everywhere I think its safe to say we still have a gopher problem at our property. They are either very active little guys or…Continue
