Discovery Community Garden

A big thanks to all volunteers who started this garden and good luck for the new growing season.

Hello everybody. I left some seeds to be planted at the church. They are in a small Safeway plastic bag in the big football at the back door to the church. Corn, beans, zucchini, etc. I'm sorry I won't be there gardening with you this Saturday. See you next week.. Bonnie

The afternoon time slot is good for this Saturday, April 17th.

Yes, we have room for more to join us in our garden!

It looks like you all did a bit more work on Saturday, looking at the pictures from Marie. Did you discuss when to meet on Saturday April 17th ? I have a previously committed to host a Local foods challenge, which falls in the 10 - noon timeslot, see www.localonly.org .
I have some more drip line to put down and get connected. We have a Mission High school group asking for some ground to plant, can we offer them a few rows ?

Thanks much,
Michael

Moya, yes there are opportunities to garden during the week. Anytime I am there (see previous post regarding Census) or the Pastor is there you are welcome to garden. Just give one of us a call first so we can have the tool shed unlocked. Thanks!

Are there opportunities to do work during the week? My weekends are often booked so I miss out on the "group gardening" events, but I want to contribute.

Rachel, I just saw this post. This saturday will be a good time to have volunteers from the high schools come and help. We have lots of different things for them to do. We pretty much have designated every saturday morning from 10am - Noon as our work party days. How do we give community service hours credit to high school students? Do the students bring something from their high school for us to sign?

Our church is working with the 2010 Census. We are providing a meeting space for a local Questionnaire Assistance Center (QAC). QAC's will assist those unable to read or understand the 2010 Census form. The church will be open and staffed each Thursday, Friday, and Saturday between 1pm-6pm for the next 4 weeks starting 3/18/10. I will be on-site working as a QAC. If you know of anyone who needs help completing the 2010 Census form please let them know that we are here to help!

Also, if anyone would like to come by during these times to garden please feel free. Contact me by 1 pm so I can make sure the garden tools are available for use.

All those working should plan on bringing a spare set of shoes to garden in. Your feet will get dirty! Also make sure you have gloves to work with. I was there when the manure was delivered and I am happy to report that there was minimal smell, if any. I'm working on obtaining marigolds for the borders. We should have a few dwarf trees in pots that can be planted as well as some radish seedlings from my son's science project :)
