Take care of your back Susanne! You only have one. I've put the meeting on my calendar.

the summer garden is coming to an end.
We still have tomatoes, peppers, some eggplants and basil left. Since we had planted our garden early most of the plants are at the end of their lifetime and are definetly looking that way. This is a normal cycle of gardening, we will do a fall cleanup and if there is some interrest we can do a fall planting for winter crop. Unfortunately I am currently nursing an acute back injury and cannot do garden work. I would like to meet with garden folks on Sunday Sept. 26 after the service to discuss how we move forward for the winter.
In the meantime please harvest what is available, I am currently not able to do this.

Oops - I may not make it this weekend, but will try to bring it sometime soon.

Hi Susanne - the kids didn't have time to pick anything last Sunday - I meant to let you know sooner. I have a plastic container labelled "basil". I'll try to remember to return it this Sunday.

We are back from vacation and I did some general clean up of the garden today. Some plants have just outlived and needed to be removed.
I hope some corn was harvested before the big Aphids investation happened. I cut it all off since I don't want to spread this love. I saved the stocks, they can be rinsed off and used for kids harvest projects around Halloween.
We will have some empty beds until it is time to replant by the end of this month. Depending on how much help we can get there will be a winter garden.
I am missing a few of the harvest baskets, they probably are somewhere in the church office. If you find them please place in the trailer.
I have to work this weekend so harvest is "U pick" style. The kids can pick the yellow sungold cherry tomatoes, beans and the yellow peppers in the keyhole bed and place whatever they don't immediately eat on the garden share table.
Also some of the low growing sunflowers can be cut for decoration for service.

Today's Overboard cartoon has an interesting comment on how to keep out garden pests. Go to http://www.uclick.com/client/smc/ob/ and select August 6. Enjoy!

Jen King, Karen McVey & me (Nancy Marshall) handle the Garden Share table. We DO need to have someone responsible for getting the left-overs to a charity. Hopefully we can figure this out at church today or sometime soon! Nancy

I'm out of town. Our regular Director of Religious education will be back. I don't know if Suzanne Jossvwill be back. Sometimes the MPUUC president, Jen King or her partner Melissa Holmes, is in charge of the garden share table so if you find them you will definitely be able to make a plan for picking up the left overs.

Hi Allysson - Sorry I wasn't in touch sooner, it has been a crazy week. We should have a plan for tomorrow. At what time are you finished with the garden share table?
