Margery Leonard commented on Rachel DiFranco's event LEAF Membership Meeting
"The Membership Meeting/Potluck planned for June 1 is a great idea!  Unfortunately, I have another engagement that evening. Is it possible that next week the highlights from the 7:30-7:45 agenda could be bulleted and sent out to members?…"

LEAF Harvest Food Swap Event

Food swaps are hot--and this is the area's first ever!  I can't wait to share my grandmother's chili sauce.  The recipe is 60 years old; the vintage is this fall. Whether it's used like salsa or like catsup, it's delicious! Wonder what I'll swap it for . . .

LEAF Center Work Party at LEAF Center

April 9, 2011 from 9am to 12pm
In advance of our June 4th fundraising dinner under the stars with special chefs, speakers and musicians, we have a bit of work to do to prepare our LEAF Center site. Winter weather has moved some things around and spring rains have brought thick weeds. Could you come out for an hour tomorrow morning and help brighten up a little piece of LEAF Center? Thanks in advance for your help. Please bring your work gloves.

Laying out the Mission Blvd garden at MWBC garden

March 13, 2010 from 10am to 12:30pm
We a have tilled area that we can start to get lay out and ready for planting . General idea is to consider height of the plants from the nothside down to the pathway, in order to keep sunlight reach at an optimum. Discuss if we want just rows or more pathoptimized, permaculture elementsPick how you want to help :- Spread compost- layout rows and pathways- fix waterline and add drip line connectors and faucets- more weeding on high beds- plant more potatoesSee More

What does one put on a business card in retirement? I thought about my passions--support for small farmers, local and organic and sustainable produce, farmers' markets, care of the environment, slow food, eating nutritiously--and put "locavore." That the plan for edible gardens in Niles and my chairing an AAUW project One Book, One Community Reading Animal, Vegetable, Miracle all coalesced in 2009, the path for 2010 seems fated.

Thanks for joining us Margery!
Animal, Vegetable, Miracle is one of my favorites. I've been contemplating a second reading of it as I enter this new growing season as a refresher. Locavores unite!

Help us grow!

The City of Fremont has approved our plans to build community gardens in the old Mission Adobe Nursery, but this plan is contingent on our ability to raise $30,000

If we can raise $15,000 from the local community, StopWaste.Org will provide us with a matching grant of $15,000.
