LEAF - Local Ecology and Agriculture Fremont

Hello Everyone,

I am new to this area, and I was wondering if anybody knows of places in Fremont (or nearby) to get some decent compost by the truckload? I want to mix it up with my current soil to amend it and get ready to plant the seedlings that have germinated indoors... I do have a compost pile, but it is not quite ready for now, so I need more compost. Also, anywhere where I can get manure from some horse stable?

This rain is wonderful, isn't it? =)

Gratefully,

Begonia

I've used Foothill Worm Ranch in Sunol, phone number is 925-484-4192.  Website: www.foothillwormranch.com

I called for mail delivery and got my package of worms in a couple of days..

Hope this works for you,

Bonnie

Thanks, Michael =)

Actually, I ended up finding U-save Rock in Hayward, and I got a yard for $36. Definitely "decent" for its price. Yes, some horse manure would wonderful to add to my hot pile. One more question, maybe you know, is there any local worm farms where I can purchase worms? My hot pile is getting rather huge, and I have a few worms, but I need more because I generate a lot of green matter (from kitchen scraps) and prefer keeping it home to make compost than to feed it to the green bin. I have found a place in Berkeley, but when I sent email to order (twice) they didn't reply... hmmm... anyway, maybe someone knows of a reliable, local place for worm farms???

Thanks again! =)

define decent ?? We had some free horse manure from the stables bevor Sunol on the right when you go up 680 ( i forgot the name ) . Otherwise i like Mushroom compost which is available for $40 -50 per yard from Evergreen nursery and from u-save rock in Hayward.

The City of Fremont has approved our plans to build community gardens in the old Mission Adobe Nursery, but this plan is contingent on our ability to raise $30,000

If we can raise $15,000 from the local community, StopWaste.Org will provide us with a matching grant of $15,000.
