Hello Fellow Gardeners,
I have a gofer problem in my yard. I have heard that it is common in this area (have only been here a few months. Not quite a year yet). I do not want to poison the gofers because I don't want a bird maybe eating them, or they decompose and the poison goes into our water system... Hence, I have a predicament when growing vegetables, and I guess I have to learn to live with the gofers. I have constructed a couple of raised beds, digging 1.5 ft down into the earth, adding chicken wire at the bottom and sides of hole, then adding the raised beds on top. I have two questions:
1) has anybody actually seen gofers chew through chicken wire?
2) I purchased half barrels to plant lettuces and chard on it, has anyone planted tomato plants in half barrels, and will the tomato roots have sufficient room to reach maturity, or will they need more depth than what the half wine barrel can offer?
Thanks a bunch!!! =)

Help us grow!
The City of Fremont has approved our plans to build community gardens in the old Mission Adobe Nursery, but this plan is contingent on our ability to raise $30,000.
If we can raise $15,000 from the local community, StopWaste.Org will provide us with a matching grant of $15,000.
